Banff-классификация, являющаяся попыткой стандартизовать патологические находки в биоптате трансплантированной почки, была создана на конференции, имевшей место в городе Banff, Канада, 2-4 августа 1991 года и была впервые опубликована в 1993 г. [1]. Основным автором данной классификации является профессор Ким Солес, Университет Альберта, Канада. В дальнейшем на конференциях, проходивших раз в 2 года в том же городе, классификация подвергалась небольшим модификациям и приняла настоящий вид в начале 1999 года [2]. В последнее время классификация принята большинством трансплантационных патологов в мире, а также используется в качестве стандарта в большинстве крупных международных исследованиях по применению иммуносупрессивных средств.
