Aim and Scope
The journal's most important tasks include summarizing scientific and practical achievements in the field of adult and pediatric nephrology, and studying issues of renal replacement therapy (dialysis and kidney transplantation).
The journal publishes reviews and lectures on a wide range of nephrology and dialysis issues, as well as related disciplines in medicine, original articles, brief messages, and practice notes.
The modern concept of the journal defines the formation of new thematic vectors of publications. The journal has become a platform for discussing the most relevant interdisciplinary problems of onconephrology, cardiorenal syndrome, endocrinology, rheumatology, and vascular access surgery. Special attention is paid to publications devoted to kidney pathology in pregnant women and the management of pregnancy in patients undergoing renal replacement therapy. The new section "Nephrology in Pictures" ("Images in nephrology") allows the readers to become acquainted with the diagnostic capabilities of various imaging techniques through vivid clinical examples. Traditional publications are the ones with an emphasis on histopathological verification of kidney diseases.

Peer-Review
The Editorial Board reviews all materials received by the Editorial Board that correspond to its subject matter for the purpose of their expert evaluation. All papes received by the Editorial Board are subject to one-sided blind review. The original reviews are kept in the Editorial Board for 5 years, copies of reviews are provided to the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation Expert Councils of the Higher Attestation Commission when the Editorial Board receives a corresponding request.
- After acceptance of the manuscript by the Editorial Board of Nephrology and Dialysis, the manuscript is sent to the Editor-in-Chief or one of the Deputy Editors-in-Chief, who checks the manuscript for compliance with the journal's scope and general manuscript requirements. Manuscripts that meet the subject matter and, on initial assessment, are technically and scientifically acceptable will be sent to external reviewers. The Editor-in-Chief or one of his/her deputies (on behalf of the Editor-in-Chief) determines who will personally review the manuscript. All reviewers are qualified specialists on the subject of the reviewed materials and have publications on the subject of the reviewed paper within the last three years. The editorial board, editorial council, or external independent experts may perform the review. The author or co-author of the reviewed paper may not serve as a reviewer.
- The reviewers are informed that the manuscripts submitted to them are the private property of the authors and are therefore classified as non-public information. It is not permitted for reviewers to make copies of the manuscripts they receive, or to transfer them for review to other persons without the approval of the Editor-in-Chief. The review is of a confidential nature and is provided to the author of the manuscript without a signature or indication of the reviewer's name, position, or place of work.
- Reviewer has an option to abnegate the assessment should any conflict of interests arise that may affect perception or interpretation of the manuscript. Upon the scrutiny, the reviewer is expected to present the editorial board with one of the following recommendations (each reviewer's decision is justified):
- to accept the manuscript in its present form;
- to invite the author to revise their manuscript to address specific concerns before final decision is reached;
- the manuscript needs additional review by another specialist;
- to reject the manuscript.
- It is expected that the reviewer will provide an objective assessment of the material within four to six weeks of its receipt. If revisions are required, the article is sent to the author(s) for further consideration. In this case, the date of receipt by the Editorial Board is the date of return of the revised paper.
- The manuscript sent to the author (authors) for revision should be returned in corrected form as soon as possible (not exceeding 1 month). The revised manuscript should be accompanied by a cover letter from the authors providing point-to-point answers to all comments and explaining the changes they have made in response to reviewer comments. The revised manuscript, if necessary, is resubmitted for review. If the manuscript is not returned by the authors within one month, it will be withdrawn from further consideration.
- Manuscripts submitted to the Editorial Board of the Journal can be checked using the Anti-Plagiarism system. If the result of the check reveals incorrect plagiarism, the manuscript may be rejected.
- The Editorial Board will send the authors copies of reviews or a motivated refusal. In case of a discrepancy between the reviewer's opinion and the author's viewpoint, the author may submit a well-reasoned response to the editorial office. Further review by other specialists may be performed at the discretion of the Editorial Board. In case two negative reviews are received for a given manuscript, the article is then submitted to a third reviewer, appointed by the Deputy Editor-in-Chief. It must be noted that a positive review does not guarantee the publication of a paper. The final decision regarding the potential publication of any submitted material is made by the Editor-in-Chief of the journal "Nephrology and Dialysis". The authors of the manuscript are duly informed of this decision.
- Once the decision to publish the article has been made, the Editorial Board notifies the author and specifies the publication timeframe. Manuscripts that do not comply with the Rules for Authors are not considered. Manuscripts and electronic media are not returned to the authors.
Publishing Ethics
The Editorial board and publisher follow the standards of transparency and ethics in scholarly publishing formulated in the declarations by the Association of Science Editors and Publishers (http://www.naukaran.com/avtoram/etika/) and the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE, https://publicationethics.org/resources/guidelines). In the case of violation of the ethics requirements, the paper can be retracted.
Essential points:
Authorship of the Paper: Authorship should be limited to those who have made a significant contribution to the conception, design, execution, or interpretation of the reported study.
Originality and plagiarism: The authors should ensure that they have written entirely original works, and if the authors have used the work and/or words of others, that this has been appropriately cited or quoted.
Data access and retention: The authors of original papers should provide information on how their raw data can be accessed; for example, «the data can be provided upon a request addressed to the corresponding author».
Multiple or concurrent publications: An author should not, in general, publish manuscripts describing essentially the same research in more than one journal or primary publication.
Fundamental errors in published work: When an author discovers a significant error or inaccuracy in his/her published work, the authors should promptly notify the journal editor or publisher and cooperate with the editor to retract or correct the paper. In the case the paper is already published, the authors should provide their correction as Erratum.
Hazards and human or animal subjects: Statements of compliance are required if the work involves chemicals, procedures or equipment that has any unusual hazards inherent in their use, or if it involves the use of animal or human subjects.
Use of patient images or case details: Studies on patients or volunteers require ethics committee approval and informed consent, which should be documented in the paper.
Acknowledgements and source of support: Proper acknowledgement of sources of financial support including grants and essential assistance.
For example: "The work was (partially or fully) supported by a grant or contract (specify the source of funding)" or "The authors thank I. I. Ivanov for his help in performing measurements on...", etc.
