Natalia Tomilina - Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor, Distinguished Physician of the Russian Federation and Head of the Nephrology Department of the Faculty of Postgraduate Professional Education in Moscow State University of Medicine and Dentistry n. a. A.I. Evdokimov.
Professor Tomilina is one of the most recognized nephrologists in our country, and her career as a nephrologist began in 1963. Her contributions to the field include the implementation of nephropathology into the clinical practice, significant progress in providing of the wide access to the kidney replacement therapy, invention of the first intensive care unit for kidney patients in Russia, initiation of a Registry of patients on kidney replacement therapy, long-term collaboration with the International Society of Nephrology and the European Renal Association, and the foundation of the clinical nephrology school in Russia In 1993 Professor Tomilina's initiated the Moscow City Nephrology Center based at the City Clinical Hospital No. 52.
In 1998, she played a key role in organizing the Russian Dialysis Society; she was elected as its first president and kept serving in this position for 12 years. In 2004, Professor Tomilina organized the Nephrology Department at the Faculty Postgraduate Professional Education of the Moscow State University of Medicine and Dentistry, and continuing to lead the department. In 2012, she was recognized by the European Renal Association as a "Pioneer in Nephrology" and became the first recipient of the prestigious "Pioneers in Nephrology" award from the International Society of Nephrology. Since the founding of the "Nephrology and Dialysis" journal in 1999, Natalia Tomilina has been its unwavering editor-in-chief.
